FacebookはOculusを買収したり「ソーシャルVR」のコンセプトを発表したりとVRへとまい進していて、MicrosoftはHoloLensを開発しMR技術を拡張しています。その一方で、AppleはARを推してると言われていました。今回、まさにそれを裏付けるような特許情報が発表されました。
Apple Insiderによれば、Appleが申請していたAR関連の特許が新たに承認されました。米国特許商標庁（USPTO）には、「Augmented reality maps」と題して、その特許の詳細が公開されています。
この技術を使うと、たとえば街の風景にiPhoneのカメラをかざせば、トップ画像みたいな感じで、ランドマークとか建物とか道路とかの名前や説明がリアルタイム表示されるようです。
